Adolescents

One of the most difficult times in life to navigate is between ages 12-18. And yet, challenging though they may be, issues of self esteem and personal worth are formed in a profound way. Often parents and children start to relate in ways that could seem more adversarial than cooperative, and yet both love each other deeply.

More below.

Let’s face it, being a teenager is hard. They’re under stress to be liked, look a certain way, do well in school, get along with family, and make big decisions. While they can't avoid most of these pressures worrying about them to a certain degree is normal. But feeling very sad, hopeless or worthless could be warning signs of a mental health problem. Mental health problems are real, painful and sometimes severe. Adolescents might need help if they have the signs mentioned above, or if they:
  • Often feel very angry or very worried
  • Feel grief for a long time after a loss or death
  • Think their mind is controlled or out of control
  • Use alcohol or drugs
  • Exercise, diet and/or binge-eat obsessively
  • Hurt other people or destroy property
  • Do reckless things that could harm themselves or others

Needing additional support from another non-biased adult is often helpful in sorting through this critical time in life. I'd like to be on the team to help your adolescent move into adulthood with confidence. Call today to learn more.
